Buffalo City Tourism recognises the important role a vibrant and successful local film and video production industry has to play in our overall tourism promotion strategy, and we look forward to working with local filmmakers to position Buffalo City as a film production hub.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry, film and video production contributed in excess of R6-billion to the economy last year, creating over 9 000 direct jobs in the process.
This represents growth of over 200% over the past five years alone, which indicates that the industry is not only maturing, the economic impact is widening.
Equally importantly, the film industry also plays a critical role role in the development and promotion of local and regional tourism.
A highly visual medium, film is an excellent platform with which to showcase a region’s natural resources and local attractions. It is also an exceptionally powerful communicator of heritage and indigenous knowledge, and as a platform to share information and insights about specific cultural and regional identities.
Whether feature films, documentaries or TV series – regardless of the format, visual stories open up new windows to our world, develop new voices and help us find and harness new audiences.
